Do you have skin that appears lumpy or dimpled?

This is cellulite. It’s a very common condition, especially with women. Over 80% of women post-puberty will have it. That’s in contrast to 10% of men.

It is a very interesting phenomenon. Let’s find out why it happens…

What Causes It?

Cellulite is simply visible fat. The more visible the fat the more cellulite you have.

So, the following can increase the appearance of the fat below the skin:

  1. Having more fat in the first place
  2. Distribution of the fat- the distribution is more visible on women than men
  3. Thin & loose skin- this is why cellulite increases with age. Thicker skin hides the rippled connective tissues underneath more effectively. When the skin loses elasticity the fat below becomes visible.

Fascinating right!

So, all we need to do to treat it is reduce fat and/ or change the skin characteristics. More on that later!

Cellulite is usually found half-way down our bodies- on our thighs, hips, buttocks and abs. It can also be found on the breasts.

Don’t worry, it is not harmful. However, it can be a symptom of an unhealthy lifestyle. Genetics and pregnancy can also play a role.

Cellulite Treatment Options

So, can we get rid of cellulite?

Some people don’t like its appearance and wish to remove it.

It can’t be irradicated completely but the appearance can be significantly improved.

Diet and exercise is important. However, many find there is still some stubborn fat that refuses to budge.

Some common treatment options include:

  • Anti-cellulite massage
  • Endermologie
  • Surgery
  • Cellulite injections
  • Cellfina/ Cellulaze
  • Velashape
  • Ultrasound
  • Radiofrequency
  • Coolsculpting cryolipolysis
  • Cream

The best cellulite treatment will depend on the individual. However, we have found great success with injections, radiofrequency, and low frequency ultrasound. We also offer cryolipolysis so we can target it from all angles.

Cellulite-Dissolving Injections

Aqualyx® is a fat-dissolving solution which is injected into the affected area. It is non-invasive and takes less than an hour.

It liquifies and dissolves the fat-cell membranes leading to a reduction in cellulite.

Ultrasound is then used on the surface of the skin to help the liquid move in the treated fat cells, and those nearby. This causes the cells to expand and break, releasing the lipids contained within. These are subsequently destroyed naturally by the lymphatic system within your body.

We have an Aqualyx® specialist so you can rest assured you are in the best hands.

You can read more about the treatment here.

Fusion CRF

To receive best results we recommend combining Aqualyx® with a radiofrequency treatment for cellulite called fusion CRF. We are a pioneer of bio-tec fusion CRF technology in London.

After the cellulite dissolving injection, CRF contours the area, tightening the skin back up.
